Under the guidance of The Lions Club of Galle The Lions Club of Matugama inaugurated on 19th September 1999, filling the deficiency of not having a non-governmental organization, under the club number 061758. Its inaugural membership was 20 & now it has increased up to 23 members. Our first President was Lion Ajith Jayaratne & the Secretary was Lion Saman Siriwardane.

We are members of zone 2 in region 5 of Lions International District 306-A. As with all Lions we are an organization of members dedicated to service in need. As Lions we realize that nationality, race, skin color, age & social status are not barriers in joining hand in hand to make a better tomorrow.

What we do is written in the Association's motto it self, "We Serve". We a kind hearted team initiated this club with a determination of doing something to the society & people. "United never we fall" we believe. We extend our service at the club level or internationally to the visual handicapped, deaf & dumb, drug addicts & victims of the war, flood & drought.

As Matugama Lions Club we determine community needs and develop means of meeting them, either through our own efforts or in cooperation with other well wishers.  At the same time, Matugama Lions Club provides good fellowship and club social life for our members.  A Lions Club is a great place to meet new friends or continue friendships with old friends.
